Do you live with, work with or love a young person in foster care? Are they struggling with a mental health condition, addiction or thoughts of suicide? Join us to learn about common mental health challenges, taking action and handling a crisis.

How do you talk with a young person to show care and concern? Come learn about a five step action plan for helping a teen you care about.  Choose the Sun Consulting and Columbia Rising, LLC has partnered with the Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition to offer FREE Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) certification training for foster parents, mentors, CASA volunteers, and anyone else who works or lives with children in the foster care system. Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify,  understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and  substance use disorders.

I can’t emphasize this enough:

This 8-hour training gives adults who work or live with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the  appropriate care. This course is 8 hours, not including a 30-minute lunch break.

Upon successful completion of the class, participants will receive a 3-year certification from the National Council for Behavioral Health. Lunch and light refreshments will be provided. What’s the real story?

Whether at home, work or engaged in the community the impact of behavioral health functioning is present. Everyone has mental health, just as everybody has physical health, and both reside upon a continuum from fitness to illness.

However, behavioral health needs are not given the same consideration as medical health needs. Columbia Rising LLC aims to rectify this by bringing Behavioral Health Informed Practices into corporate and social settings to address the importance of behavioral health functioning in our professional performance and daily interactions.
