Bennington College Alumni Gathering in NOLA

Sunday November 11

Gretna

Please join the Bennington-NOLA Alumni gathering hosted by Ben Schenck ’86 and Ama Rogan. Ben and Ama would like to welcome all alumni in New Orleans and nearby for a meet-and-greet at their home for conversation, food, and of course, music!  RSVP by November 5. About our hosts: Ben Schenck (under the first name John at the time) graduated from Bennington College in 1986, majoring in Music Composition and Clarinet and studying primarily with Lou Calabro, Gunnar Schonbeck, Milford Graves, and Bill Dixon. It was Schonbeck who, as graduation approached, advised, "just go down to New Orleans and start sitting in."  Ben moved to New Orleans (and began using his middle name) in July 1988 and felt right at home.  He earned a Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from the University of New Orleans in 1994. Ben founded the Panorama Jazz Band in 1995 and the Panorama Brass Band in '97 which have been his primary work focus since then, performing and recording "Party Music of the World" on traditional, unamplified instruments.  Panorama has held down a weekly gig at the Spotted Cat on Frenchmen St since 2006, played JazzFest every year since 2000, marched in Mardi Gras Parades since '97, played hundreds of local parties, released eight albums since 2003, over 50 monthly singles online since May 2014 and performed in Turkey, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, and Mexico as well as around the US.Ben and Ama Rogan (RISD '88) met in 1992 and married in 2002.  They have son Rogan and daughter Ida.  We hope to see you there!
