Colorado Language Connection is offering Bridging the Gap (BTG) 40-hour Medical Interpreter Training at Asian Pacific Development Center. Bridging the Gap, created by The Cross Cultural Health Care Program, is a 40-hour professional development course that trains bilingual individuals to work as medical interpreters in hospitals and clinics. The course introduces attendees to critical skills required for successful interpreting in the medical field. Who should attend Bridging the Gap training? 1) Bilingual healthcare providers and professionals who also serve as interpreters in the workplace 2) Community/ patient navigators who provide interpretation in a clinical setting 3) Bilingual individuals who wish to pursue a career in professional medical interpreting 4) Bilingual individuals who wish to become a certified medical interpreter** ** The course fulfills the training requirement that interpreters need to be eligible for the national certification from National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters (NBCMI) & Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI). To be eligible, interpreters need to complete a minimum of 40-hour training in medical interpreting. The cost of this course is $525 (US). Course fee includes: Course fee includes: - English pre-assessment test - Bridging the Gap Textbook - Bilingual Medical Glossary (available in 20 languages)* * If the language is not available, participants will receive an English-English glossary - Guide to Common Medications - Certificate of Completion issued by the Cross Cultural Health Care Program (upon successful completion of the BTG course and passing the final exam) Admission Requirements: - Must be 18 or older - Have a high school or GED Diploma - Proof of language proficiency: Applicants must provide copies of proof of language proficiency. Proof of proficiency can be copies of any one of the following documents: - High school diploma or equivalent from a school in their target/ native language - B.A., M.A., Ph.D., or other degree from accredited higher education institution in their target/ native language. - 5 or more years of verified professional experience in their target/ native language. - Proof of Language Proficiency Assessments in the target language PLEASE NOTE: If applicants do not have any prior proof of language proficiency: - The registration process will include a speaking and listening assessment conducted over the phone. - The testing will be scheduled through ALTA Language Services and will be administered at Colorado Language Connection's office on a weekday (8:30am - 5:30pm) that is convenient for the applicant. - The test will take approximately 25-30 minutes. The maximum possible score is 12; a 9 or higher is required for admission. - The cost of the language proficiency assessment varies from $50 to $60 depending on the applicant's target language. The applicant will be responsible for the cost. The cost of the language proficiency test is not included in the course fee. - We require payment in advance before proceeding with scheduling for the test. We accept credit cards and payments over the phone. Once the payment has been processed, we require at least 2 days in advance of the desired test date. - Results are provided in 1 to 2 business days.
