The Introduction to Social Media class is a free six-week course aimed to take the guesswork out of social media. The course is designed to teach small business owners and hobbyists looking to make their passion into their career how to effectively use their social media platforms as a marketing tool. Previous social media experience not required. Although the course is free, registration is still required. By the end of the course, students should be able to broadly define the functionality of multiple social media platforms, evaluate the best social media platform(s) for your brand or business, learn to develop a social media strategy, tap into your online community, and develop the skills necessary to plan, draft and execute a marketing campaign. As a lifelong resident of Hillside, New Jersey, I am honored to partner with the Hillside Public Library (a place I frequented as a child) to teach this course to small businesses owners in the Township I've called home. About the Instructor: Flisadam Pointer, a lifelong Hillside resident is a proud Rutgers University - New Brunswick campus. Graduating in May of 2014 with a bachelor of arts majoring in journalism and media studies with a minor in digital communication, information and media and in May of 2017 with a master of arts on the digital media track, Flisadam has a passion for communication in digital spaces. In her professional career, she’s used this passion to curator content for arts and entertainment organizations including Newark Symphony Hall, State Theatre New Jersey, and as an independent contractor in the arena of social media management and digital strategy.
